SARGENT / SERGEANT, Thomas
I am looking for descendant's Of Thomas SARGENT/SERGEANT who settled the South New Berlin area & New Berlin area from 1798 on. Thomas, it now appears, was married twice. All his children were b. from 1802 on. They were: John b. 1802 m. Elizabeth JACOX in 1826 lived at Butternuts. James(my ggg) b. 1802 (twin to John) married Fanny HALE migrated to WI. Lewis b. 1804 m. Mary "Polly" WENTWORTH lived in Cortland Co & Deruyter. Elizabeth b. 1811 m. Rufus COOPER lived at Owego in Tioga co Lucy Ann b. 1813 m.Isaac MILLER lived near New Berlin I believe. Thomas m. Sarah SISSON DEFOREST (2) they lived in South New Berlin. Thomas Also had a twin brother Samuel that settled in South New Berlin area and married Catherine MARVIN. Their son's were: Hiram, Ely, Harley (who Morris Postmaster about 1830 I was told by a source at Gilbertsville Library.)
I have been researching this line for about a year now and started with about 200 names from a book published in 1908 by John Cassan WAIT, written by his mother, Ambrosia Sergeant WAIT. I am now at about 2,000 names but I still need much more information. Who was Thomas's first wife, the book never mentions her, only Sarah Sisson Deforest? I found a census from about 1840 that says the male children were from VT.
I am putting up a web page but it is still in construction, visit and see some of the allied families I have from the Chenango, Otsego, Cortland and many more county areas in NY. GEDCOM is in Zipped version for download now. It is located at: http://www.elknet.net/kresl/Penny/penny.html Thanks for all replies.

He was married Sept 22, 1794, came to Indiana with his large family about 1818 and died in Parke Co In 1851. His wife was Hester HELMS (1775-1832). Accoring to their family bible (found in the Terre Haute IN library) their children were: Jehial b Jun 10, 1797; George C b. March 3, 1800; Mary b. Feb 4, 1803; Eliza b. Sept 17, 1805; Permelia b. June 5, 1807; Simeon Jr b. April 14, 1811; Levi b. April 6, 1813; Reuben D b. Aug 1, 1815 (my man); Joseph C. b. Aug 1, 1818 and Margaret Ann b. March 15, 1825.
I know quite a bit about Joseph, Simeon, Jr and of course Reuben. It is hard to understand via the bible whether Joshua and Hannah Smith are Simeon's parents or whether George is -- both seem to be progenerates, just not sure which generation is which. Anyone know anything about this family? Have been searching for almost 30 years for the place in New York for sure where they are from and to no avail. Glad to share information. A probable nephew of

STIMPSON (STIMSON), Charles Henry
My grandfather: Charles Henry STIMPSON (STIMSON) born 16 Aug 1857 at either Oxford or Coventry. I am trying to locate information on my grandfather's first marriage: Charles Henry STIMSON (STIMPSON) to Sarah J. (TUTTLE) SANDERS. They were married Mar 3, 1885 in Coventry, NY. They had a daughter born Dec 15, 1887 in Coventry (no first name listed). Sarah was born in Greene, NY to james & Margaret Tuttle in 1856/57. This was Sarah's 2nd marriage. She had been previously married to Henry SANDERS & had a daughter, Maggie, b. 1878 (from census). Possibly one child (female-no name, born in 1886 in Coventry). Believe they lived in Colesville between marriage & my grandfather's second marraige to my grandmother, Rose Emogene TUCKEY (b. 5 Julyl 1881 in Coventry) on 31 July 1897 in Sanitaria Srpings. (Her parents were James A. TUCKEY from Coventry & Julia GARRISON from Downsville (Colchester then I think).
Sarah died there on July 1, 1889. Next contact with Charles was 1892 Colesville census listiing him as living with Jesse TUTTLE, Sarah's half brother,
from her father's 2nd marriage. Would like to know (1) whatever happened to Maggie SANDERS as she wasn't listed on census with Charles in 1892.
(2) Does anyone know anything about Charles & Sarah's daughter born Dec 15, 1887. She wasn't listed on census & I can't find any notice of a death in Oxford Times or Coventry records.
(3) 1900 Cenesus of Binghamton listed Charles & my grandmother, Rose along with their first child, Lena, living on Park Ave in Binghamton & it also listed a Ray b 1880 as Charles' son. I find no basis for that but it might be Ray TUTTLE, Sarah's nephew, as Charles was living with Ray's father in 1892 before marrying my grandmother, Rose Emogene TUCKEY, in 1897. (Chas was listed in 1880 census as still living at home with his mother, Sarah Jane (PADGETT) STIMPSON, widow of WILLIAM STIMPSON.)
I would appreciate any information anyone might have concerning this query. I am willing to share any information I have. Also does anyone know anything about a Ray STIMPSON in Bainbridge who married Emily INGRAHAM? I can't tie him to my STIMPSON line & I can't find a birth date. I don't think this Ray was the above mentioned Ray.

STIMPSON (STIMSON), Charles Henry
My grandfather: Charles Henry STIMPSON (STIMSON) born 16 Aug 1857 at either Oxford or Coventry. First marriage was 3 March 1885 (Coventry) to Sarah J. (Maiden name TUTTLE) SANDERS (her 2nd marriage). Sarah was born in Greene to James & Margaret TUTTLE. Possibly one child (female) born in 1886 in Coventry. Believed they lived in Colesville as until in 1897 Charles married my grandmother, Rose Emogene TUCKEY (b. 5 July 1881 at Coventry) on 31 July 1897 in Sanitaria Springs (parents: James A TUCKEY from Coventry & Julia GARRISON from Downsville [Colchester then])
On 1900 Census, Charlers & Rose were living on Park St. in Binghamton with their first child, Lena Pearl STIMPSON (STIMSON) b 4 Sept 1899 in (Binghamton?). It also listed as a son, Jesse but from birth date I think it may have been Jesse TUTTLE, the brother of Charles' first wife, Sarah TUTTLE SANDERS & not Charles' son. Charles & Rose had 7 more children as follows:
Leon Henry b 5 Jan 1902 in Coventry; Gay A. b 3 Feb 1904 in Harpersville; Helen Florence b 9 Jan 1908 in Bainbridge; Ernest Charles (Numan) b 20 Sept 1909 in Bainbridge; Amos Wm. b 12 Dec. 1913 & Virgil LeRoy b 22 Dec. 1916 both in Bainbridge; Ralph Richard b 8 Mar 1912 or 1923 while living in Sidney. Can find no trace of birth registration for him.
Charles's 1st & 2nd marriages listed above. Also would like to know if there were any children & who they were from Charles' first marriage. Never started researching until entire generation was gone & have found tons of information no one ever knew. I am willing to share any information I have. Thanks!!

William STIMPSON (STIMSON) b 1833/1834 possibly in Oxford (?)-no census records I can find) & Sarah Jane PADGETT b 1836/1837 in Coventry. Children:
Charles Henry b 16 Aug 1857; Ella Mariah b 1860/1859 & Lottie A (Lorry, Laura Ann) b 1865/1864.
Two other girls died as infants. Wm., Sarah, Charles, Ella & Lottie were members of First Congregational Church of Coventryville & Wm. died in 1878. Sarah, Charles & Lottie were on 1880 census for Coventry. Possibly Ella married between 1875 & 1880 to someone. Can find no records since 1880 census. Possibly Sarah remarried after 1880 census as only 42. Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated as I don't know (& have exhausted what I do know) how to find out who William's parents were.

Looking for information on any WALRATH that lived in and around Afton. My grandfather Alvin L. WALRATH was born in Afton in 1887. His father was Charles and mother Anna STAM. Charles and Anna had four children and then Charles died at the age of approximately 46. Anna remarried a man named ROCKWELL. Together they had a number of children including Garret, George, and Leroy. What is the significance of the name Rockwell Mill's? I understand the Rockwells names above were builders and there may be a connection. There may also be a connection between Chenango, Madison, and Broome County for these persons.
